We embarked on an exciting AR experiment to discover the potential of Augmented Reality Technology within a city. Our objective was to create an enjoyable experience that allows users to explore the city from a unique perspective.

Introducing Unlock The Wings, a creative twist on the concept. Users are invited to visit various cultural landmarks within the city, uncovering hidden cultural treasures that are not heavily advertised but are delightful to behold and capture through photographs. Each location holds a key to be collected, unlocking digital wings that can be applied to statues.


Point of interest on a map . Avatar is the key with wings. Once you get closer to the physical
location the spot turns into an image and allows you to start AR experience.

For this project, we opted to utilize WEBAR technology, making it accessible to everyone through any mobile browser without the need for downloading an application. Additionally, we employed VPS (Visual Positioning System), a remarkable technology that enables precise application of digital content onto real-life objects without requiring QR codes or any other markers. This is achieved by utilizing a pre-scanned 3D mesh of the location, which we meticulously prepared in advance.

We encountered a few challenges along the way. The first hurdle was scanning all the spots. This process was time-consuming as we needed to generate over eight scans for each location to provide the Machine Learning model with sufficient data for processing. Moreover, conducting these scans in Dubai presented an additional challenge due to the scorching 40-degree heat outside.

The second challenge involved thoroughly testing each location. Our technicians visited each spot multiple times to ensure all objects were accurately placed.

In conclusion, VPS is a mature technology that enables the scanning of both public and private spaces in 3D, allowing for the seamless overlay of digital content. This creates an immersive experience that can be enjoyed using various devices such as mobile phones, HMDs, and more. We successfully scanned a significant portion of Dubai Mall and DIFC, bringing this remarkable AR experience to life.
